I’ve always believed that modern home interior design isn’t just about filling a space with beautiful furniture. It’s about creating a visual narrative that truly reflects your clients’ individuality. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing Sarah Becker Design’s Hometown Modern project in Lexington, TX, and I can honestly say this shoot was one of those moments that remind me why I love what I do. In this blog, I’ll share how embracing a bold design vision can transform a space and why investing in professional photography can elevate your modern home interior design portfolio.
Sarah Becker Design is known for working with clients who aren’t afraid to push boundaries. In the Hometown Modern project, Sarah and her team broke away from the farmhouse trend. Consequently, they created a striking, edgy design that perfectly matches the vibrant energy of this family’s bustling lifestyle. The clients, who even share a high school history with Sarah, recently moved back from Houston to finish raising their daughters in their small hometown. This move wasn’t just a change of location it was a full embrace of a new chapter that demanded a fresh approach to modern home interior design.
From the moment I walked in, I could see that every element had been carefully chosen to tell a story. Sarah’s vision was clear: she wanted a space that would not only be functional but would also stand as a testament to bold, modern interior design photos that capture dynamic color and pattern. Every detail—from the custom art choices to the carefully selected materials in the primary bathroom had a mix of nostalgia and forward-thinking style.
As I arrived on site I remember feeling so much excitement as I saw the endless possibilities! Everything from daring color choices to pattern explorations was already set in motion. As I captured the images, I focused on how each detail contributed to the overall narrative of the space. It’s this storytelling approach that sets professional interior photography apart! I strive to capture the true personality and soul of a room. Allowing viewers to feel the textures, colors, and emotions as if they were walking through it themselves.
For instance, one of my all-time favorite shots (and one of Sarahs favorite rooms) from the project was of the primary bathroom. The materials used—rich textures and unique wallpaper, told a story of transformation.
As a Houston interior photographer, I use expert techniques to capture the essence of modern home interior design:
1. Strategic Use of Lighting:
Lighting is essential in interior photography! I work with artificial and natural light to emphasize textures and colors, ensuring that every corner of the room plays it’s part. In the Hometown Modern project, I used both natural and artificial light to capture the story.
2. Dynamic Angles and Composition:
Every space has its own personality, and I make it my mission to capture it from various angles! I shoot wide to reveal the overall layout and intimate close-ups to showcase the details that make each room unique. For example, I focused on the custom artwork and carefully curated decor that Sarah chose for the dining area, proving that even small details can tell a big story.
3. Emphasizing Textures and Materials:
Modern home interior design isn’t complete without a celebration of textures. Whether it’s the softness of a custom fabric, the rugged beauty of reclaimed wood, or the sleek finish of modern fixtures. I use close-up shots to highlight these textures, ensuring that the viewer can almost feel the quality and care that went into each element.
4. Storytelling Through Details:
What makes a space truly unforgettable is its story. I take the time to understand the background and emotional context behind the design. As a result, every photo I take reflects that deeper narrative. This approach ensures that the images don’t just look beautiful—they connect with viewers on a personal level and resonate with potential clients.
Investing in professional photography for your modern home interior design projects goes beyond just having pretty pictures. It builds a powerful, cohesive visual narrative that sets your portfolio apart. Storytelling Photography Attracts Your Ideal Clients:
Professional images tell a story! They capture the mood, personality, and unique features of your designs, inviting clients to envision themselves in those spaces. This emotional connection is what turns casual browsers into committed clients.

Reflecting on the Hometown Modern project, I realize how much every phase of my journey has prepared me for this moment. I transitioned from capturing weddings and engagements to diving deep into the world of modern home interior design photography, and every experience has enriched my storytelling ability. Sarah Becker Design’s project allowed me to embrace not only the beauty of modern home interior design but also the meaningful narrative behind every detail. From the emotional backstory of the home’s legacy to the bold design choices that now define its character, I loved every minute of capturing these layers of history and innovation.
