Investing in an interior photographer is an important part of any interior design project! It can help showcase the beauty of a space and give potential clients an idea of what they can expect from your services! However, when it comes to choosing an interior photographer, there are a few important questions you should ask before investing! Whether you’re a vacation rental owner looking to spruce up your listing or an interior designer looking for professional photos of your work, understanding the process and what to expect is key! Here are some essential questions to ask when considering investing in an interior photographer:
It’s important to understand the photographer’s experience level and portfolio. Ask for examples of their previous work and inquire about their experience with interior design photography specifically. It’s also helpful to know if they have any specialties or areas of expertise that could be beneficial for your project!
The equipment used can make a big difference in the quality of the photos! Ask what type of camera and lenses will be used. As well as any other equipment such as lighting or props. Knowing this information ahead of time can help ensure that you get the best possible results from your shoot!
Pro Tip: Natural lighting is the best lighting for interior design photography! So make sure your interior photographer mentions this and also likes to use natural lighting above all else!

Time is money, so it’s important to know how long the shoot will take! This will depend on the size of the space and how many shots need to be taken! For example, I offer multiple different interior design photo packages!
A 1-3 hour session is perfect for individual room projects and smaller spaces at a single location! A half-day session is perfect for mid-size spaces or smaller spaces with multiple locations! This can take up to 4 hours of capture time! Last but not least, a full-day session is perfect for large spaces or mid-size spaces with multiple locations! This can be up to 8 hours of capture time!
Knowing these specifics is really important when investing in an interior photographer this way, you can plan accordingly and make sure that everything runs smoothly on the day of the shoot!
Make sure you understand exactly what is included in the price before signing any contracts. Some interior photographers may include editing services or an online gallery. While others may charge extra for these services. Knowing what is included ahead of time can help avoid any surprises down the line!

The number of photos taken during a shoot can vary depending on the size of the space and how much detail needs to be captured! Ask how many photos will be taken so that you can plan accordingly and make sure that all angles are covered.
Photos can vary as well depending on if the space(s) are completely set and ready to shoot or if we are having to set and style as we go!
Editing is an important part of interior design photography, so it’s important to understand what type of editing will be done and how long it will take! Some photographers may offer basic editing services such as color correction or cropping. While others may offer more advanced services such as retouching or compositing multiple images together! Knowing this information ahead of time can help ensure that you get exactly what you want from your photos.
In addition to photography and editing services, some photographers may offer additional services such as printing or framing options. If these services are available, make sure you understand what is included in each package so that you can choose one that best fits your needs and budget!
Not only that but photographers may also have recommendations for additional services such as interior stylists. I like to offer this recommendation to my clients as some clients like to have a stylist during the shoot, so make sure to ask this question as well!
All in all, investing in an interior photographer can be a great way to showcase your home or business in its best light! Asking these questions before investing can help ensure that you get exactly what you need from your shoot and avoid any surprises down the line!
