Working as a Houston interior design photographer, I get to capture some truly remarkable spaces, but Mary Harrison latest project definitely stands out! Mary’s client, a young and lively family with two adorable girls, wanted a home that was not just fresh and fun, but also super functional. The result? A beautiful, colorful, and practical living space that ticks all the boxes for functional interior design!
One of my favorite parts of this project was the family room! Mary nailed it by adding tons of seating, making it the perfect spot for the whole family to hang out together. Whether it’s watching movies, playing board games, or just chilling, this room is now a cozy haven. The mix of textures and colors adds so much depth and warmth, making it a truly inviting space. I loved how the family room turned out, it’s cozy yet spacious, and every piece of furniture feels like it belongs.
As a Houston interior design photographer, capturing this room was such a joy! I focused on showing off the variety of seating and how it all comes together to create a comfortable space. Wide-angle shots highlighted the room’s spaciousness, while close-ups of the textiles and finishes showcased Mary’s amazing attention to detail.
Now, let’s talk about the breakfast area, one of my favorite rooms of the entire project! Mary designed a space that’s not only functional but also absolutely gorgeous!! She included a vinyl banquette where the girls can eat, do their homework, and even have a little art time without worrying about messing up any beautiful fabrics. This area is a perfect blend of practicality and beauty, just what functional interior design is all about!
For the photoshoot, we made sure to capture how versatile this space is. I couldn’t miss the detail shots of the banquette’s design elements, like the durable vinyl material and the surrounding decor, which really show off the space’s aesthetic appeal!
The dining room in this project was designed around the client’s favorite Schumacher wallpaper. This personal touch added a unique element to the space, making it both beautiful and meaningful. Mary’s ability to incorporate her client’s tastes and preferences into the design is one of her many strengths and perfectly aligns with functional interior design.
During the shoot, I focused on capturing the elegance and personality of the dining room. I took shots of the wallpaper and how it complements the furniture and decor. I also included photos that show how the dining room fits into the overall design of the home, highlighting Mary’s cohesive and thoughtful approach.
Beyond showcasing Mary’s incredible work, I want to share some valuable insights for other interior designers:
