Investing in interior design photography services is a great way to showcase your work and attract potential clients! However, it can be a daunting and confusing task to prepare for the shoot, especially if it’s your first time getting an interior photoshoot done. As a Houston-based interior photographer who photographs interior design projects and discerning short-term rental owners, I thought I’d share some tips to help you get ready for your interior design photography session!
The first step in preparing for interior design photography services is choosing the right photographer! Look for someone who has experience shooting interiors and understands how to capture the best angles and lighting! Ask to see their portfolio and read reviews from past clients. Make sure they have the right equipment and know how to use it properly!
Your gorgeous projects and meticulously designed spaces deserve elevated photos that highlight the beauty, experience, and possibility of each room and home so you want to make sure you are investing in a photographer who can bring your vision to life!
You know all those lovely details you put so much time and thought into when designing your client’s project or decorating your short-term rental? Those details are what set you apart! When you hire me as your interior photographer my interiors photo sessions are all about showing off the exquisite extras and making sure your vision comes to life!
Once you’ve chosen a photographer, it’s time to set up your space. Start by decluttering and removing any unnecessary items from the room. Then, arrange furniture and accessories in a way that will look good on camera! Consider adding plants or other natural elements to add texture and life to the shot! Finally, make sure all surfaces are clean and dust-free before the photographer arrives.
Props can add interest and depth to your photos, so take some time to select them carefully. Choose items that complement the overall aesthetic of the room, such as books, artwork, pillows, throws, or vases. If you’re shooting outdoors, consider bringing outdoor furniture or potted plants to enhance the scene!
Lighting is key when it comes to interior design photography, so make sure you have enough light sources available! Natural light is ideal if possible; however, if you need additional lighting, consider using lamps or overhead fixtures. You may also want to bring in reflectors or diffusers to soften harsh shadows or brighten dark areas of the room!
Before your photographer arrives, take some test shots with your own camera or phone so you can get an idea of what works best in terms of angles and lighting! This will help you communicate more effectively with your photographer about what kind of shots you’d like them to take during the session. But don’t worry if you aren’t too sure about what you’re looking for as the interior photographer is the expert and can help you with the best angles, lighting and so much more!
I like to shoot wirelessly tethered to my iPad when I’m shooting with interior photography clients. This allows them to move stuff around, change angles, lighting, and more so they can see the exact look they’re going for! I love offering this to my clients because it gives them a different perspective on what the photograph will look like!
Once your photographer has finished taking photos, review them together and make any necessary adjustments before they leave. This is also a good time to discuss any post-processing techniques that may be needed in order to achieve the desired results!
For a lot of first-timers, interior photoshoots can make them feel very anxious or nervous. This is normal as it’s hard to know what to expect. BUT there is nothing to worry about or be nervous about! This process is SO much fun! You’re not even going to want the day to end! As your interior photographer, I’m here to not only take luxury interior images but to help you have a fun exciting experience! You’ll be beyond excited and amazed at how the right photos and editing will set your projects apart and show off your work in the best way possible!
